it's pouring outside. visibility is less than 1 km. most people from bina hill are in annai at "sports days" (track and field for the school students). i came back here to avoid getting stuck in the crowds and the rain.
there's a horse tied up. i think it's a mare, maybe an appaloosa. looks like my dad's horses. anyways, she's not tied up like normal, with a bridle and maybe a long rope attaching her to a tree so she won't stray. instead, her two front legs are tied together with about a 1/2' length of rope between them. she has to draw up the entire front part of her body and kick forward with both legs to take a step.
it makes me want to cry. i want to untie her; i don't want the person who tied her up to be mad at me. i think it's cruel to tie her up like that; i am afraid someone will look down on me if i let her loose. this is reflective of how i deal with most justice issues i come across. something's gotta change.
*edit*: my dad sent me this e-mail:
"Caylie: Just read your blog and had to write. That horse you talked about is quite probably better off "HOBBLED" than being tie to a single tree. this allows her to have a wider range of freedom and better grass variety, than if she was tied to a tree. Tying a horse to a tree with a long rope has ruined may horses, as they get tangled up and brusie there legs etc. Hobbling may look bad but may people do it here when they are camping with no fence enclosure available. Believe me, that horse is better off being hobbled rather than tied. she doesn't mind either, just can't gallop away and risk being hit by a vehicle."
so... an interesting piece of information. however, my ignorance regarding horses does not excuse my inaction.

This horse story was sad. I'm glad your dad cleared it up.
I know how you feel about wanting to help and not doing it. I get scared about things like that too. boo
Your braids are so cute.

i still feel like hobbling is cruel, though. maybe less physically cruel than i thought, but definitely psychologically cruel.
