live a normal life with me

when gesa interviewed me for this position in late july, she asked me to describe what i thought living/working here might be like. i had only learned that guyana is a country the day before, so i didn't have much to go on, except for the word "wild." and when you're sitting in the middle of alberta, the whole prospect of this place and my position here does seem a little wild. i mean, a 12-hour bus ride through the rainforest, just to get to the interior where i'm living now? my work involving fishing trips, where we see monkeys and caimen up close? but to be honest, since i've been here, i haven't been struck by how "wild" everything seems, as much as i've been struck by how normal everything feels. i mean, having high-speed internet certainly taints that, but even when we do community visits to remote villages, it still all seems normal. crystal and i still have a hard time believing we're in south america, probably because nothing seems very strange.
