girl who's in love with the world

on monday night i studied all night for my anthro 474 midterm. well, it was less "studying" and more "reading notes for the first time that i should have read months ago," and less of a "midterm" than an "essentially 'final' exam worth 30% of the final class mark." ugh. i wrote the exam on tuesday. i really have no idea how i did. interweb, i will keep you posted.

on tuesday after class i did some reading for an essay i have due next week. i'm doing an essay on romanticized versions of "indianness" in film, and basically talking about how, although most portrayals are total stereotypes, and there are a lot of errors regarding culture and place and stuff, the films are, as a whole, pretty beneficial because they create dialogue and also show a pretty extreme change in what the general public is willing to pay for when they go to see a show. i haven't actually started writing the essay yet, and i'm sure it'll end up being a bunch of b.s., but whatevs.

on wednesday i had class and work at the elementary school. then i bussed over to w.e.m. on the #4, a.k.a. my favorite edmonton bus route, for a haircut. first i stopped at cinnzeo for a cinnamon bun. then i got my hair cut at rain, because i had a gift certificate for there left over from last christmas, and it was almost about to expire. my bangs are short again. party on. after my haircut i walked to lewiscraft in the mall to buy some needles, and found that it wasn't there anymore! boo! i think there's an optician there or something. so then i tried shopping for some clothes because my mom said she'd pay for some christmas clothes if i bought some, but i hate shopping, so i bussed home right away. claire came over to my house and we went to the grocery store for some fruit/milk/smoothies/chocolate bars, and then drove back to w.e.m. for the stars/miracle fortress show at ed's. ugh. the tickets said doors were at 7, so we waited outside in line in the freezing cold for 45 minutes until they opened the doors at 7:45. by that time, we were totally frozen, so we wanted to keep our coats to help us warm up, but security said that there was a mandatory coat check, and THEN ed's had the nerve to CHARGE us for the coat check. red's/ed's has always been the worst edmonton venue ever, but this just made it drop to a new low. the show was pretty good, but it was really crowded and a sucky venue, so i didn't have as good a time as i potentially could have. on the plus side, though, i saw some people i really like, including robin and a girl i hope he dates soon, bri, bethany, joel, and that boy who is my not-crush-but-is-for-some-intents-and-purposes (who, like me, was evidently skipping ballroom dancing). i had thought the boy who is my REAL crush might be there, but he wasn't. boo. claire and i left just before the show ended because we are introverts who were tired and had sore backs from standing and didn't want to stand in line waiting for our coats at the lame-ass coat check.
