on tuesday i had a hang out date with a boy named emery. we planned to meet at 10. at about 9:30, he texted me to ask if we could meet at 10:20. then he texted me to see if we could meet at 10:30. i got to the sugarbowl at 10:35, and he showed up at 10:55. he said he was late because a) he took a different bus than he normally does, and bussing from his house took longer than he thought it would, and b) he was working on adding some cover art to a mix cd he had made for me. i really, really appreciate that he recognizes that you can't give a mix cd (or tape, or book, or whatever) to somebody without adding artwork (or, in the case of books, at least a little note written inside). to his credit, i know that the busses are sometimes a hassle, and the typography he did on the cd cover is seriously BITCHIN'. whatevs. he paid for my breakfast to make up for his lateness. nice. i have a crush on the cd cover because it reminds me of jason schwartzman's character in "shopgirl," who has an adorable affinity for creating typefaces. anyways. i didn't talk much because i didn't feel like talking that day, and he is an interesting boy who says interesting things and is good to listen to, but i think he thinks i am boring. oh, well. after breakfast we came to my apartment to get my longboard, and then we went to saskatchewan drive, where we tied my longboard to his bicycle with my hammock rope. i rode his bicycle and towed him as he laid on his stomach on my longboard, taking pictures of the bicycle in motion for a photography project for school or something. i think the longboard ran over his fingers once, because after we stopped, his glove was all ripped up and his fingers were bloody. also, his jacket had some holes burned in it by the friction of the ground, i think. i felt bad, but it also made me laugh because it was so sad and cute. anyway, that was the end of our hanging out.
i should have worked on my essay that day, but i LRT'd to the downtown library, where i picked up some cds and THE FIRST SEASON OF DEGRASSI JUNIOR HIGH on dvd! i watched a few episodes, and then tried to nap. i couldn't fall asleep, so i went and visited this boy nathanial downtown, where he was silkscreening shirts in his shop. it made me miss CTS with kelseydawn like mad. then i picked up this neat girl claire (who coxed the boys' rowing crew this season) and we went for some AMAZING bread at this place on whyte where one of the novice boy rowers works. kate (another rower) met us there, and the three of us went to work at the argyll casino from 9:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. i kind of dreaded doing it, but it turned out to be really easy, so i am doing it again tonight to get my "volunteer" hours for rowing out of the way. we only have to do about 1.5 hours of work during the 6 hours we are there, and we get some pretty awesome food for free, so it's an okay deal.
i also got a letter from dustan in the mail yesterday, which has (hopefully) spurred a renaissance of letter-writing for me tonight. i also got an e-mail from him, saying, "did you get my letter in the mail? are you going to write me back? you f*cking better." that's a good strategy, i think. i need to be more forceful in demanding replies for the letters i send. anyway, also, he sent me an e-mail that said that he had found a poem he had written about me once, but couldn't show me, because, "you would fall in love with me, and we can't have that. With our lives in such an opposing state. No that wouldn't be good for anybody. just know it exsists. That my country owns weapons of mass suseption." i liked the mass susception bit. i'm sure he stole it from somewhere. whatevs.
today i internet-stalked two cute boys with two of my best friends. i won't incriminate you, girls. don't worry. i'm glad that my trashiness at least had good company.
another notable moment of today includes seeing a girl in the campus suite hotel tower (the apartment across from my window) take off her shirt in front of the window and dance around. i didn't even realize what was happening until after it happened. i thought that kind of shit only happened on lame 1990s sitcoms.
