the grand canyon skywalk: what a disaster. http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/home.html
i think that one of the things i am going to miss most about bina hill is the boys there. crystal and i share a room with our two girls, and then about 6 teenage boys live just outside our room in the same building. two of the boys are in our program; the rest work in the garden or do maintenance at BHI. they are pretty much the closest thing i've ever had to brothers. sometimes i get really frustrated with them: they play their radios and guitars at 6 in the morning and late at night; one of them came home drunk and just peed next to his hammock instead of walking 3 steps outside.... i like that we can all kind of yell at each other and be temporarily angry, but still have good relationships. the best thing, though, is being privy to tender moments that i usually would never experience. on the night of mashramani, i heard the boys come in late, and they were talking softly in their hammocks. johnny, one of the garden boys, said quietly (and i'm certain with a smile on his face), "you know, i had a fun day today." that doesn't sound like much, but it was amazingly cute. on valentine's day, browne neil (we have two neils, and this one's last name is browne, hence, browne neil) said to me, shyly, "you know caylie, you lookin' pretty." usually i just feel like all boys are arrogant, tough jerks. i like seeing them like this. i like the shyness, the exhausted contentedness (is that a word?). i will miss those boys like mad.
